Personality: La Muerte is the ruler of the Land of the Remembered and is essentially a goddess of the Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos). She is made of sugar and believes that man is pure and kind. Because of this, she can be described as a bit of an optimist when it comes to other people. When she placed her bet on Manolo to win the heart of Maria, she was confident that he would always have a pure heart, and do what was right. She was also confident that Manolo would win based on these traits. She is also very gentle and kind to her subjects in the Land of the Remembered as well as the those in the living realm. As ruler of the Land of the Remembered, she takes extra care in remembering who her subjects are and treats them with both kindness and care. This can be seen when the Sanchez family finds her in the Land of the Forgotten and she immediately knows who each family member is, and brings Luis' body to him. Her kindness and even a bit of patience can also be shown when she is telling Manolo's story to the school children.
Despite thinking that man is pure, she tends to do very little to interfere with the affairs of mankind. She tends to let things happen and let mankind settle their own differences. Of course, if more people die, the end up in her realm anyways. It's really a win-win situation. The only known time she had ever meddled in the affairs of the living was during the battle of San Angel when she, Xibalba, and The Candlemaker brought back the Sanchez family spirits to help fight off Chakal and his army. Despite doing this, she did very little during the battle and simply observed.
La Muerte loves to gamble. Because she has lived for thousands of years, normal bets aren't exciting. The bets she places tend to have high risks, such as the rule of her domain. This could be due to the fact that she is confident with her decisions. While La Muerte loves gambling, she absolutely despises cheating. There is nothing that gets her more angry than cheating. When she is angered, her candles will light up with a raging fire and she will even scream. Needless to say, she will never cheat on a bet, and will always fulfill her end of the bargain.
When it comes to getting what she wants, La Muerte will act absolutely sweet, especially towards Xibalba. She will bat her eyelashes, coo, and show lots of affection. However, if she is denied what she wants, she will become angry. She is also possessive of Xibalba who happens to be the love of her life. If she catches him staring at another woman, she will hit him. Despite all of her squabbling with Xibalba, she will always love him.
Background: Wiki Link!Abilities: Because La Muerte is essentially a goddess, she has a wide array of powers. One of her most used powers is her teleportation. She can easily teleport from one area to another. When this happens, there is usually an explosion and trail of marigold petals that follow.
La Muerte can also change her form to anything she wants. It can be assumed that she can shape-shift into anything living, but so far she only has two additional forms. One is of a
Tour Guide and the other is of an old woman which unfortunately has no pictures online.
La Muerte can on occasion bring the dead back to life, or even bring their souls to the land of the living. However, as this is against the Ancient Rules, she cannot do this on a whim. But on The Day of the Dead, she is allowed a little leeway to break the rules.
As ruler of The Land of the Remembered, she can provide her subjects with endless fiestas and food (chuuuuurrooos). How this is provided, nobody knows. Its assumed that she can make it appear on a whim.
La Muerte also has the ability to 'bless' the living. She can bless those who she deems fit to 'always be true and pure of heart.' While this doesn't have a
major impact on those she blesses, it does help nudge them in the right direction.
La Muerte's powers are not limited to just these, she can float, fly, lift others up via her magic, and light candles with a wave of her hand.
Because of the country where her story originates, it can be assumed that La Muerte knows both Spanish and English.
